With release from oestrogen-induced negative feedback inhibition, gonadotrophin concentrations once again rise in the newborn as do sex steroid concentrations, for many months after birth. It is not unusual to measure a testosterone level in a male baby less than six months of age which is equal to or greater than that found in a fourteen-year-old pubertal boy.
